A viable pregnancy means one that is capable of continuing on its own. Approximately 30% of all pregnancies result in a miscarriage. An abortion performed when a pregnancy is not viable can result in unnecessary expense. Many crisis pregnancy centers, such as ours, offer sonograms free of charge to determine viability if you are considering an abortion. Eligibility for a viability sono will be determined by your counselor at the time of your visit to our Center. Since this is very difficult to decide over the phone, our trained phone counselors have been instructed to defer making this decision when you call
There are several criteria for determining if a woman is eligible for a sonogram at our Center. These include but are not limited to the following: 1) a positive pregnancy test, 2) being at least 6 weeks pregnant, 3) single, and 4) no health insurance.
An appointment will be made for you either the day you are seen for pregnancy counseling or one will be made for you for a future date. Both of our sonographers have been trained as limited first trimester sonographers. Viability ultrasounds are performed Monday through Friday from 10 am through 12:30 pm.
